Karen Purvis Chalflinch 57, entered Heaven peacefully on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 surrounded by her family, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC.

Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday June 12, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church,  Robbins, NC, where she was a member, with the Reverend Dr. Bill Cooper, Reverend Brad Harrison, Reverend Robert L. Kidd and Reverend Eldon Hinegardner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Karen was a kind and caring person, a loving sister, wife and aunt.  She served the children of Moore County for 30 years as a teacher and mentor to so many. She loved the Lord and her church, where she was pianist, Sunday School teacher and  lived as an example in grace, loving others.  Karen loved her family and spending time with them was most important. Those times included many trips to the beach camping, with her dogs. She will be greatly missed, but was reunited with her husband and partner, who preceded her in death, Tim Chalflinch.   Karen was a daughter of the late Dewitt and Sylvia Horner Purvis.

Karen is survived by her sisters: Sharon Oakes and husband Billy, Geraldine Boyd and husband Billy; sister in law: Linda Daggerhart and husband Phillip; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Kennedy Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 548 Marley Road, Robbins, NC 27325.

Sharon, Geraldine and family. I can't even begin to think how hard this must be for your family. Karen was one of the most beautiful, kind, loving souls I've ever known. I can't even begin to imagine our loss at this time but I'm certain on one thing, she is in a better place and will always live in the heart and the life's of those she touched so kindly and sweet. I'm sure she is playing that piano and rejoicing beyond and forever more. What a wonderful honor to have known Karen over 50 years. She will live on in our memories.

Karen was a beautiful person inside and out. I remember Kylie starting her first day in Kindergarten and how excited she was to welcome her new students with a huge smile and contagious laugh. Then Alex also had her for Kindergarten and Karen loved Alex's jokes.

Saw her last November when picking up Vanessa and witnessed once again that same smile and contagious laugh.

Karen will truly be missed by many.

Love and Prayers, Bouplons (Brad, Vicki, Kylie and Alex)

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time. Karen was kind, compassionate, nurturing, and an overall wonderful person. She loved her family to no end and would do anything for her nieces and nephews. I'm thankful to have been able to know her and to have experienced a little bit of her life on earth as her friend. Praying for peace for the family as you go through the days ahead.

I have just learned of the passing of the wonderful Karen P. Chalflinch. I knew her well as an outstanding, excellent teacher at Westmoore School for many years. Little children and parents alike were thrilled when their child was in her classroom. So sad to lose her...my love and sympathy especially to her two sisters. They were so close and she loved and adored them and her parents and all of us. God bless each of you in your sorrow.
Sincerely, Lorna C. Clack
